From Assoc Prof Elajsolan Mohan, President of the National Association of Private Educational Institutions (NAPEI), in a letter to The Star, 26 Feb 2019:

“… NAPEI encourages the call for a more autonomous environment where education must be relevant and industry-driven. The private education sector has, over the years, tried its level best to provide industry-driven courses to meet the skills needs of employers. However, due to the necessity to comply with too many regulations, the programmes become generic and sometimes outdated because of the length of time taken to get them approved. Over-regulation and ad hoc policies are among the major setbacks hindering the sustainability of the private education sector currently. …”
